Sir,
REPORT ON PIRACY OF S.S. "SAN NAM HOI".
H.M.S. "FAULKNOR”,
Kongmoon.
17th January, 1928.

With reference to my signals 1130, 1300 and 1418 of
17th January 1928, I have the honour to report that on the
outbreak of piracy on S.S. "SAN NAM HOI" three Indian guards
were killed and wounded immediately whilst at meal. The Chief
Officer and guard on duty were shot dead on the starboard side
of the bridge. All the Chinese ratings deserted their posts.
The Captain and Engineer kept up a running fight with the
pirates for about 25 minutes, thus preventing them from taking
control of the bridge.
2. The estimated number of pirates was 20. These jumped
overboard on failing to get on the bridge, first having attempt-
ed to set fire to the ship below aft. "SAN NAM HOI" was ma-
noeuvred then to close on pirates in water and sampan which
several of them had got into, and fire was directed on sampan
and men in water. One suspect found in hiding was arrested.
3. "SAN NAM HOI" proceeded to First Cliffs as it was
understood that British man-of-war ("TERN") with doctor on board
was there.
4.
